2009 Middle School Special Needs 1st Prize Winner Poetry by, Erin Van Brooklin While the rest of the world is sleeping, I'm on these unforgiving roads, running my thoughts away That will always lead me back to dismay My heart pounds And the wind flies by My feet hit the ground The birds sing their melody in song In this world where they belong But I am fighting these battles of unforgiving roads Running by as my thoughts explode Cars pass along, watching me The hills stretch as far as I can see I can feel the asphalt beneath my feet The coolness surrounds me with every heartbeat The people wake up, and come to these unforgiving roads With nothing to say, as the world turns to gray I fade into the houses as life flies by I speak out to you, but get no reply Yet, I am fighting these battles of unforgiving roads Running by, as my thoughts explode. |
